Album feedback

"I was skeptical about the notion of a full album with a robot singer, and I still am, though I have to say the robot singer worked in parts, and not as well in other parts. That said, the compositions, arrangements, and production on LeLik's "A Place in the Sun" are very good. Dance music can tend toward the highly repetitive, making for good times on the dance floor, but not so good listening outside of that context. In this case, though, strong melodies, creative arrangements, and solid production make for an enjoyable listen, even outside the disco. It would be interesting to hear these songs with a real singer, or perhaps just instrumental melodies."

"Engineers make the robots that surround us more and more human. And even if the robots can't feel yet, they seem to be very close to being able to express joy and sorrow. They tell us: We are with you, people! And this CD is a proof of that. We are witnessing the unique phenomenon in the electronic music: on the album "A Place In The Sun" all songs are performed by a robot named Lelik. I am sure that Lelik's voice will not leave you indifferent; it will cheer you up and make you think. You might ask, why? Because these simple dance tunes are sung with such sincerity which a real live vocalist can't achieve! Yes, it's difficult to confess, but while I was listening to these ironic, philosophical lyrics, I came to realize that I would have believed a real vocalist much less... So, I can surely hail this project a beginning of a new direction, and I would like to congratulate the authors with this great success and wish all the listeners to catch the nice positive mood that this unusual album carries."

"The world is not standing still, and the musical progress envelops us more and more. The place of a cult singer Bizulka is taken by Lelik, a new wonder from postindustrial Novosibirsk. When he was a child, Lelik had his adenoids removed five times, but the doctors have always missed and have cut the wrong things, including the vocal cords. So his huge adenoids have grown into his brain (namely the speech center) and his nose is always stuffed. But - a miracle - our Lelik went to a music school, and finally, after leaving behind a trail of dead bodies of his vocal teachers, who have preferred to take their own lives to listening to him another minute, and he even managed to graduate from a Conservatory. And now we are happy to hear his debuting album "Stoopid Songz" (this was the working title for "A Place In The Sun"). This really ingenious album includes no less than seven stupid songs, a pleasure for a music lover and a regular listener equally. To give us a better chance to understand these songs, the album is carefully provided with booklet that contains lyrics, in which Lelik sings about love, work, sport, etc. Unexpectedly clever philosophical lyrics, one might add. So if there is someone who can sing them without being thrown rotten tomatoes at or being banned from radio for stealing the audience's attention from the commercials, it's our dear Lelik from Novosibirsk. Who are you, a modern genius, a singer who dared to outshine Phillip Kirkorov's intelligibility of pronunciation? Is it true when they say that you are an artificial intelligence, a top achievement of modern cybernetics? We may never know the truth. So sing, Lelik, sing! You're a genius!

"Nothing pointless in this life, Nothing happens in vain" So says one of the songs on the album "A Place In The Sun" - a debuting album by Lelik, a virtual artist with synthesized voice, human soul and uber-human wisdom. This album is not pointless or random indeed, and is very important for music art in general and for each and every one of us...

There may be some kind of a paradox, but when speaking of the advantages and peculiarities of this album, one doesn't know where even to begin! Technologically speaking, this is without a doubt the new stage of modern music art, related to mastering and applying electronic sound synthesis to the human voice, that inner sanctum, any experiments with which in academic art or in pop culture has never been as radical as in the field of instrumental sound. Hyping the voice up with a microphone, using reverb, adding "plastic" sounding, etc. - these are just some of the tricks and methods used in computerizing real voice. But this is not the case with Lelik: his initial synthesized timbre is then humanized with virtual technologies. The effect is astounding: not a Human yet, but definitely not a Machine anymore! As if some Divine Intelligence from another planet came to this Earth to convey The Truth...

And The Truth, as always, is extremely simple and clear: "Happiness and sorrow come together...", "Do the job you know best...", "Nothing pointless in this life, nothing happens in vain...", "No one will make your decisions..."
Listening to these songs, one can't help exclaiming now and then: "Right! My thoughts exactly! I already knew that! God, why do I make so many stupid mistakes then?! The secrets of being are in every one of us already! We just have to be more open-hearted and open-minded..."

So thank you, Lelik, for inspiring this inner dialogue, these deep thoughts, these endless contemplations on why we are here and what is the point of our existence. And that means I figured out why you are here...

A very interesting effect - you actually want to believe this "virtual singer. And even if there are some drawbacks in his articulation and pronunciation (after all, only English phonemes were used!), in conveying the message Lelik is flawless!

All the lyrics are simple and complex, light and thoughtful at the same time.
